Spent the day at an IICRC-style certification course diving deep into the science behind proper water damage mitigation — and it's way more technical than most people realize.

A big focus today was psychrometrics: understanding how temperature, relative humidity, grains per pound (GPP), and dew point all interact during a drying job. Reading a psychrometric chart correctly is what separates a guess from a data-driven drying plan. Knowing your affected vs. unaffected readings, tracking outside air conditions, and monitoring equipment performance (dehumidifiers, air movers, HVAC) over multiple days is what actually gets a structure dried correctly — not just "dry to the touch."

It's easy to think water damage restoration is just pulling out wet carpet and running some fans. In reality, it's a science: monitoring moisture migration, preventing secondary damage like mold growth, and documenting everything with real psychrometric data so the job holds up to industry standards (and insurance scrutiny).
